Defra decide not to go ahead with plans to capture buzzards
On May 27th, I wrote a post on Wild About Devon stating that Defra plan to take wild buzzards into captivity and destroy their nests, in order to reduce their numbers, which will in turn reduce the predation of pheasants bred for game shooting. Click here to see the post.
Thankfully, Defra have changed their minds, largely due to an RSPB campaign, widely supported by their members. Click here for more details.

I have just received this e-mail.
Hi Denise.
I would like to agree at the desision to reduce Buzard numbers.
Also it is time { long over due }to reduce the numbers of several species of raptor, drastically in some cases.
Large numbers of normal passive birds are being wiped out because of massive inballence with raptor numbers…
I realy think that the RSPB has lost their way on this issue.
Its time to take stock of this very sad situation of our birds survival ,
Action and new ledgistration is required now….. Thanks.
